One minute you’re alive, the next you’re gone. Would you rather meet death like an old friend or an enemy you’d hide from until the end? To many, talking about death is morbid. True, who wants to talk about death, their own demise, or about passing on from this world? But let’s get real, whether we like it or not, accept it or not, it’s inevitable. Death is one of the few circumstances we cannot control. The Pandemic has opened our eyes to this possibility and we have come to terms with it. Still, we are greatly unprepared.
It has been over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic has started. The virus has killed over 3 million people worldwide. The outbreak started in Wuhan, China last December 2019. The Virus is mainly transmitted through droplets from an infected person’s cough, sneezes or exhaling. A person can be infected by breathing in the virus if the COVID-19 carrier is within close proximity or by touching contaminated surfaces and then your eyes, nose or mouth.
It was so sudden that every person all over the world is taken by surprise. Immediate responses from the government have been applied such as lockdown and restrictions. Limiting the number of people allowed to round free in a community to ensure that it’s spreading be slowed down. At the same time reinforcing health systems and medical protocol to ensure appropriate care will be provided to the infected individual while making sure that the medical practitioner is also protected from contracting the virus.
How do you protect yourself during this pandemic? Here are a few helpful tips.
1. Follow the safety guidelines as instructed by the Government to keep you and your family safe. That way, you’re not putting yourself or family members in harm’s way. The best way to do that is to stay at home and use this opportunity to reconnect and bond with your family.
2. If staying at home is not an option. Make sure that you’re taking extra precaution by wearing face mask and face shield when out and about in public. Make sure as well to keep your hands clean all the time by disinfecting alcohol or washing your hands. Taking vitamins should also be part of this routine to boost your immune system.
3. Follow the social distancing order when you’re in public places or workplace. Physical distancing helps in limiting the spread of COVID-19. According to experts the practice is to be at least 6 feet away from each other and avoid spending time with friends in crowded areas or hanging out in groups.
But, no matter how hard we try to protect ourselves from the virus there is still a possibility for us to get infected. And it’s not only covid-19 which we could possibly meet along the way.
